If your dog has behaviour problems, it can cause you and your household a lot of disturbance and upset. It need not be this way as many low key issues can be tackled by the simple process that is demonstrated in this video.

The video is mainly about dealing with problem barking, however the presenter sets out the method in such a simple and clear way, you will have little problem in adapting the approach to address your dogs particular behavior problem.

 

In summary the approach is as follows;

 

  1. Identify what event causes the behavior problem
  2. Praise or treat your dog before the event occurs
  3. Interrupt your dog when the event starts with praise or a treat
  4. Prevent the event from happening (as far as possible) when you are not around

 

In the video the presenter tackles the problem of her Chihuahua barking at the washing machine by following this method.

 

Clearly at the beginning her dog is scared of the noise of the washing machine. By the end of the video the Chihuahua is having more fun with the praise and treats that he has forgotten that he is scared of the washing machine.
